KLIPPEL Expands FLSI Module with New FLSI Standard Version

New Pre-Release: FLSI Standard

KLIPPEL announces the expansion of its Fast Large Signal Identification (FLSI) module with the introduction of FLSI Standard, now available as a pre-release version alongside the previously introduced FLSI Pro version.

FLSI is the next-generation evolution of large signal identification technology for loudspeaker systems. Developed from decades of research in linear and nonlinear system identification, FLSI succeeds the established LPM and LSI modules by combining linear and nonlinear parameter identification into a single automated measurement workflow. Both FLSI versions are based on the same advanced measurement technology and support the full range of loudspeaker transducer and enclosure types. The two versions differ primarily in the depth of analysis and modeling detail provided. While FLSI Pro addresses advanced development and optimization tasks, FLSI Standard focuses on efficient and reliable parameter identification for daily engineering workflows.

Unified Measurement Workflow

The traditional workflow for linear and nonlinear parameter identification requires multiple measurements and the exchange of datasets between different modules (LPM and LSI) to obtain a complete parameter set. FLSI integrates these steps into a single automated process, combining linear and nonlinear parameter identification within one measurement run. This reduces setup complexity and improves parameter consistency. Automated stimulus adaptation and optimized measurement procedures significantly reduce overall test time compared to conventional LPM/LSI workflows.

Depending on the application and setup, complete linear and nonlinear parameter identification can typically be achieved within a few seconds to a few minutes, while delivering improved accuracy compared to previous methods.

FLSI Standard

FLSI Standard provides accurate linear and nonlinear parameters using the same measurement approach as used by FLSI Pro, while maintaining a parameter structure familiar from established LPM and LSI workflows. The difference between FLSI Pro and Standard lies in the depth of the analysis and modeling details. Compared to previous LPM/LSI workflow, users benefit from improved model accuracy, increased automation, and substantially reduced measurement time. Typical applications include:

  • Driver and system characterization
  • Cross-unit comparison
  • Datasheet parameter generation
  • Selection of reference (“golden”) DUTs
  • Efficient production-related engineering tasks

Key characteristics:

  • Fast automated workflow
  • Accurate linear and nonlinear parameters
  • Familiar parameter structure from LPM and LSI
  • Minimal setup effort
  • Increased measurement repeatability

FLSI Pro

FLSI Pro extends the FLSI Standard functionality with additional analysis and modeling capabilities intended for advanced loudspeaker development. Furthermore, it is intended for engineers requiring deeper physical insight into loudspeaker behavior and a more detailed understanding of nonlinear effects. Additional functions include:

  • Comprehensive nonlinear distortion analysis
  • Separation and visualization of individual distortion components
  • Identification of dominant physical root causes
  • Thermal parameter identification and short-term power handling estimation
  • Extended nonlinear modeling detail
  • Additional protection limits
  • Measurement of impulsive distortion (Rub & Buzz)

Improved Modeling Accuracy and Distortion Analysis

Compared to previous LSI approaches, FLSI introduces an enhanced nonlinear loudspeaker model with improved parameter fitting across the full bandwidth. The updated modeling approach includes advanced dynamic inductance representation, improved extraction of nonlinear mechanical creep and hysteresis effects, and additional nonlinear distortion components such as radiation area and port nonlinearities. FLSI also separates and ranks individual nonlinear distortion sources, enabling engineers to identify dominant mechanisms and frequency-dependent effects more efficiently during product development.

New Licensing Model

With FLSI, KLIPPEL introduces a new subscription-based licensing model offering annual licenses for both FLSI versions. In addition to annual licensing, KLIPPEL offers multi-year licensing options and long-term planning benefits. Additional licensing programs for qualifying organizations may be available upon request. Please contact KLIPPEL for configuration-specific recommendations and licensing information.

Availability

FLSI Pro was initially released as a pre-release product in 2025. FLSI Standard becomes available as a pre-release measurement module with the Spring software update for KLIPPEL R&D systems. The new functionality is included in the latest software release for KLIPPEL dB-Lab v212 and QC v7.
